Hustling for clients is no fun

5 06 2008

Hustling for clients is no fun. I’ve been MIA lately because I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to figure out more effective ways to get clients. Anyone have any tips they would like to share?

In other news, I got my cert materials from UPS today, and it’s going to be fun studying for my exam in August. Yay!

If you haven’t read this post about the food industry from McBloggenstein, drop everything you’re doing and go here and look at those videos. Mind-opening and thought-provoking is how I describe them.

I’ll be back soon with more thoughts on health and fitness news as soon as I start feeling less stressed about clients. I’ll be hustling really hard this Saturday at our open house. Send some clients my way with your thoughts; the law of attraction is bound to help me out.

Speaking of the law of attraction, has anyone read The Answer by John Assaraf, one of the men featured prominently on The Secret ? I’m reading it now and it’s pretty much amazing.

Now I’m off to apply the law of attraction towards getting clients on Saturday.

Funny that you mention “The Answer”… I work closely with John Assaraf at OneCoach and have been promoting the book because I genuinely belive it’s a great tool for people who are either looking to start a business or are already running a business, but need a boost.

As for your earlier question about getting clients, you’ll eventually get to a chapter in The Answer that talks exactly about how to “attract more clients.” The basic idea is that you first have to take an inventory of your existing clients to determine which type of client is the kind you want, aka your ideal client profile. What happens to most business-owners is that you get so wrapped up in trying to accumulate more clients, that you forget who your client really is. The idea is when you get a few of the right clients, they’re worth far more than a ton of so-so clients because an ideal client refers like-minded friends, comes back, gives you feedback, is loyal and is far cheaper to maintain than accumulating more of the wrong client.

In the book you’ll find some amazing worksheets that discuss how to market your business as well by using “hot buttons.” Murray Smith says: Learn the difference between psychographics and demographics when identifying your ideal client. Then combine it with this marketing formula: Grab, engage, inform and offer. This powerful combination will take your marketing campaigns to new heights and dramatically increase their effectiveness.

Keep me posted on what you think of the remainder of the book… although I think it’s the kind of book you read once, and then have to re-read again, sort of like areference book.

Best of luck!!! Hanin

Thanks Hanin! I’ve seen the chapter for clients, but I’m on chapter 6 right now. I got the book from the library, but I am going to buy my own copy soon. I will let you know what I think once I finish in a few days!

One of the best ways to get clients is simply word of mouth. Tell everyone you know and everyone that they know. Go to places that would have the kind of people who would be interested in your line of work and spread the word. Also don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, and to find a way to subtly introduce it into just about every conversation that you have with people.

My mum did that when she first opened her business (as well as the positive thinking), and soon she’s going to be needing to hire another person to work for her because shes so busy. You’ll find clients!
